Contentful platform migration

Senior Software Engineer · CMS Migration

Repeatable migration of structured content from legacy Umbraco and Magento systems into Contentful for Diageo, with the public frontend hosted on Vercel.

01What I built

Wrote and operated Node.js migration jobs that read Umbraco and Magento over REST and GraphQL and wrote into Contentful. Tightened content models so editorial work on the new platform was less manual, and tracked down inconsistencies as jobs ran. Worked with engineering and business stakeholders so the destination model matched what the new site actually needed.

  • Node.js jobs moving structured content from Umbraco and Magento into Contentful
  • Content models reshaped for editorial workflows
  • Automated migration so the process could be re-run
  • Data-consistency troubleshooting with engineering and business partners

02Engineering proof

  • Umbraco and Magento → Contentful as the editorial system of record
  • Automated, repeatable Node.js migration jobs
  • Content models reshaped for editorial use, not a one-off dump

04Problem

Structured content and commerce-adjacent data lived in Umbraco and Magento. They had to land in Contentful in a shape editors could actually use, behind a Vercel-hosted frontend — without silent field loss or a once-only copy.

05Scale & constraints

  • Multiple legacy sources (Umbraco, Magento)
  • Contentful as the destination CMS
  • Migration had to be replayable as models and source data changed
  • Azure DevOps for delivery; Vercel for the public site

06Outcome

Contentful became the editorial system of record for content migrated from Umbraco and Magento, with jobs that could be re-run instead of a one-off dump. Volume and error-rate figures are not published.

  • Structured content migrated into Contentful from multiple legacy sources
  • Automated, repeatable migration workflows

07Stack

  • Node.js
  • REST APIs
  • GraphQL
  • Contentful CMS
  • Umbraco CMS
  • Magento
  • Azure DevOps
  • Vercel
